Start by asking family members, coworkers or friends about electrical work they may have had done. When people are satisfied with their experience, they will be more than willing to tell you. We firmly believe this is one of the best ways to find any service provider.
If you find an electrical contractor you think you can work with, do your homework.
Make sure the contractor is:
Expect a reasonable down payment for work. For a small electrical job, a 35% down payment is not uncommon. For something larger, the contractor may need 40-45%. Do not pay-in-full up front. No reputable contractor would ask you to do that.
Make sure the contractor “Pulls” the necessary permits. This is your assurance that an electrical inspector is double checking the work and assuring the work is done properly. This could be the difference between a full settlement from an insurer or a blank stare should the worst happen and your home is damaged.
